I’ve been helping new authors to self publish their books for the last decade. Over this time I’ve watched many books go into production. And one of the largest themes authors write about across the board is the journey of self-discovery. After all, it’s human nature to discuss what we’ve overcome. We have an inherent need to share our pains and struggles. Perhaps we are looking for approval, perhaps it’s necessary for the human spirit to heal, maybe it’s to find those like-minded wounded or healed souls to gain a compassionate ear, or maybe we have now learned something we wish to share to help others?
Everyone’s motivation is just slightly different and the outcomes are as unique as the stories told. We are all learning and growing in our human experience and writing gives us the opportunity to share the obstacles we’ve overcome.
One of the greatest challenges a writer faces is getting up the courage to bleed onto the pages...
Do you have something to say but worry what people will think of you when you say it? Have you struggled feeling inferior at some point in your life? Have you even struggled with depression because you have a hard time communicating?
Today show will leave me a bit vulnerable as I share how I overcame the obstacles and became an author of multiple books. Hi I’m Nicole Gabriel and welcome to today show!
It may be hard to believe that someone who has written multiple books and has her own podcast ever struggled with finding her voice. The reality is that my entire life I have struggled to communicate with others and share the gifts that I have been given. I have been given so many gifts and I have struggled so much to find my voice and come into my own.
As a child I was pulled out of classes and targeted as someone with learning disabilities. I was embarrassed each time there was a knock on the door and I was pulled out of the classroom for testing. It would seem to...
Has someone told you that a book will help you get on stage to speak? Have you spoken on stage and wished you had additional credentials? Have you been asked to do break out sessions at a corporate event and lacked solid or professional material?
Hi, I’m Nicole Gabriel and welcome to todays show!
Let’s talk about how to best write a book for the top paid speaking gigs.
A good majority of my clients are involved in some kind of speaking, whether that be TedX, corporate, or ministry. Generally it’s been the top large corporations that pay top dollar to speakers to entertain and motivate their employees. It’s been typical that motivational speakers have been brought in to boost morale, as a reward for hard work done, to create togetherness and build teams, to discuss or enhance awareness of sensitive topics.
Generally speaking, a speaker becomes a motivator. The best results tend to be humor. So imagine taking the obstacles you’ve...
It’s a beautiful blue bird kind of day here in Utah. I hope you’re enjoying a beautiful day wherever you are tuning in from.
Speaking of locations…most of our listeners are from the USA , but we also have a bit of a following over in Australia and in Europe…saying hello to you all! Thank you for joining us!
No matter where you’re tuning in from, the value we provide to our listeners or readers is really what matters the most in the end. Why you want to communicate with others is always a personal choice, but when you communicate to offer value is when you will begin to find the largest audience.
Many authors forget the idea of talking to their audience and write their book from the me, me, me perspective and forget that they aren’t really what matters here. People tune in to learn from you so it needs to be you, you, you as you speak to your audience. This should also help you form how you communicate with your audience....
One of the most popular topics in the book publishing world is “do I need an eBook” or a printed book?
I talked about this topic in one of my earlier podcasts, but I wanted to bring it up again in a more recent episode with a bit more detail that I’ve picked up since my first podcast on the topic.
It always comes down what you’re trying to do with your book. Have you written a business plan? What is your why behind writing the book? And, what format corresponds with that plan?
If you have a ton of overseas business partnerships, family, or friends that you believe will have interest in your book then it may be best to set your book up as an eBook almost immediately. This will get your book there fast and you can avoid shipping charges.
There are also a few book launch tricks authors have learned too over the years…selling an eBook at launch can increase numbers sold and pop them up to the lead of the charts in their genre....
Have you written a book or considering writing one? If so, have you given distribution any thought? Most people don’t think about distribution until after they have done their book release party and already sold a few books, but…you really should have distribution set up well before you start selling any books! Unless you’ve already written a book you have no idea that there is an entire process surrounding the words of your manuscript. Being a self-published author means stepping up and knowing all of these processes. This is where hiring a coach that knows what they are doing will help you seamlessly manage all the stages of making your book a successful reality. Its about far more than the content and distributing your book awakens you to the idea that writing a successful book requires a smart business plan well before the words hit the page.
So you’ve perhaps already written a book and now you’re looking into the proper distribution...
Self Discipline and Passion
What is your passion and are you disciplined enough to go after it?
Perhaps you’ve heard the quote “Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishment”? Or you’ve heard that “Success doesn’t come from what you do occasionally. It comes from what you do consistently.”
Today is a bit of an emotional show…I generally go with what comes up for these podcasts. I do turn them into blogs on my Lets Get Your Book Published website too if you’d like to refer to them later. For me, writing is so healing and it’s always filled with tears. So before I get teared up again…lets get going!
Is there something you know that you need to do before you leave this planet? Do you get out of bed with a fire in your belly every morning to pursue your dreams? What motivates you? What are you willing to sacrifice to manifest that vision or create that reality? Are you pissed off enough? Are...
The other evening I finished up a class I’ve been taking to learn about email list building and SEO. It took me a very long time to complete the class because I was also writing out my value proposition and defining the audience I’m speaking to, generating ideas for lead magnets (that thing my target audience is drawn to and clicks to learn more about me), and making lists of key words (further identifying who I am and what I do). I also set up google analytics and played with a few other website monitoring tools. Have you done any of these things for your business?
I have to admit that these items were just always kind of tossed in a corner and left for a rainy day for the first decade of my business. It wasn’t until recently that I began to really start thinking about how much more functional my business would be if I plugged in some back end enhancements and leveled-up my business.
I’m super excited to now be able to monitor the...
I have been really doing my homework lately on SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and all things content for both my website and my books and I wanted to share a few things about what I’ve learned.
I’ll be honest, it’s been a few years since I took the time to play in the online space. I really haven’t done much over the years to promote my business online or via events or social media. I’ve actually just been far too busy. In fact, all my marketing efforts and back-end business tools have always been something I just kinda noodled with in my free time and in between clients. I’ll also admit that I’ve never had a formal business plan, never a real formal sales agreement, and only the minimum content has ever been displayed on my website just to simply have an online presence. I always wondered why I needed to make the effort to do all these things if I had a thriving business. But, sometimes it takes backing up to go more seamlessly...
I was just having a conversation with a client this morning about some design ideas for her new book. I have been designing book covers for the last decade now and I have identified a few topics for discussion for today’s show as it relates.
My client is a therapist and she was telling me about the kind of therapy she does for her patients. She was telling me it is not uncommon to be called at strange hours of the night to pull someone off a bridge or to remove a gun from their hand and in the process of clearing their trauma… and some traumas of her own… she realized that she wanted a book that would showcase peace.
Today we had a discussion about that and some of the attractive features geared toward someone who might buy her book. I told her that there are a few ways that we could approach this…
We can approach it by having an image on the cover that would pull in the reader that is dealing with traumas and issues of their own…...
